Evergreen
Evergreen is one of Autobahn’s first commissioned typographic experiments. For some time, Autobahn provdided ‘typographic illustrations of illustrative typography’ for NRC Next Magazine’s articles. Evergreen was created for the article ‘Het gras van de buren...’ (‘The Neighbour's Grass...’), an essay about mankind’s envy and how our grudge towards happiness of others will eventually tear ourselves down. For the designing process, actual grass was used. The letters were cut out with knives and then photographed by Jordi Huisman. To preserve the tactility and since the limited use of the font, a vector version has not been created. The title of the article and the streamers were set in the Evergeen. Together with other contributions of Autobahn to NRC Next Magazine, Evergreen has won a silver European Design Award, category ‘Book & Editorial Illustration’ in 2009.
