Leidsche Rijn

Signposting for open air exhibition

Twenty-five works of art were the inspiration for a range of performances and musical recitals during the first edition of Utrecht Uitfeest Leidsche Rijn. The event was organized by the municipality of Utrecht and Beyond, the art project group of Leidsche Rijn. For the festival, Autobahn designed architectural typographic objects, lasercut from sustainable polystyrene. The big white numbers immediately drew attention in the landscape and made sure visitors found their way. After the event the objects were collected and recycled.

In 2009 this project was awarded with a European Design Award.

FC Autobahn

FC Autobahn

Poster design for GDFB

For the first edition of the Graphic Design Festival Breda (GDFB) Autobahn designed the FC Autobahn typeface. That year the GDFB coincided with the European Football Championship.

The font is based on the chalk lines of a football field. Obviously, the typography was applied with a line marking cart.

FC Autobahn was awarded a Utrecht Design Award in 2009 and a European Design Award in 2010.

Verkenners

Brochure and poster design

Verkenners is a collaboration between artists and area developers. Together they look for ways to use art in areas that are newly developed. Can art contribute to the quality of the area? What opportunities do the artists have? And how can they involve future residents? To visualize an answer to these questions Autobahn literally covered the artist with the area he is in. On his back the grass spells “verkenner”. This is the path they have to follow in order to solve their issues.

Typeface bookcase

Handmade digit-shaped bookcase

For one of the homes for the elderly of the Brentano Foundation Autobahn designed four digit-shaped bookcases. They indicate which floor the visitors and the residents are on. The residents fill the bookcases with personal items to show who inhabit that particular floor, giving the space a personal touch.

Would you like to have one of these unique handmade bookcases? They are for sale in our shop.

FOTODOK Carrousel

Exhibition design

Hit the Road is a documentary photography event which takes place at various locations in the center of Utrecht (NL). It consists of three exhibitions, each drawing attention to documentary photography in their own way.

One of the components of the event is a giant carrousel-shaped magazine. The magazine informs the visitors about the exhibition and includes an educational program for students.

Streetcorner

Poster and flyer design

Streetcorner, a Streetwise Jazz Encounter is a project that introduces (urban) children to jazz music.

In order to reach the right audience, Autobahn combined actual street elements by manually drawing the typography with markers on a paving stone.

Vedett

Photo booth design for Vedett

Pop-up gallery Opperclaes in Rotterdam invited Autobahn to create a photo booth for the Belgium beer brand Vedett.

The theme was “Penguins and Polar Bears”. We wondered: why do penguins always look at the sky? This was the starting point for the photo booth design, which consisted of the typography and a mask entirely cut out of cardboard by hand. People in the booth put on the penguin mask, position themselves in front of the question on the wall and reach for a bottle of Vedett beer that is dangling from a fishing rod. That’s why penguins always look at the sky!
